My Review of Style Your Mind
Last week I purchased Style Your Mind by Cara Alwill Leyba. I have to say that out of all of the books and workbook type exercises
I have read/done since starting my own business, Style Your Mind by far has had the most impact on how I view my life and my business.
Days before my workbook came in the mail, I was feeling more than a little out of sorts with all of the responsibilities that were piling up on my
plate. From appointments to paying the bills, getting the kids to neighborhood activities, making sure the kids don’t run out of toothpaste, cooking,
cleaning, working-from the second I woke up until the second I went to bed, I felt like there was no time to relax. I was drowning-and I know many
of you feel the same way. In fact, when this article popped up on my Facebook feed: Women Aren’t Nags, We’re Just Fed Up, I felt like someone
wrote a post about my life. When I shared it, I saw I wasn’t alone.
I’ll admit-when I first opened Style Your Mind I was immediately intimidated by all of the blank lines I saw. In an effort to try to get myself together,
this felt like it was going to be one more task added to the pile of things I would like to get accomplished. However, I got through all 57 workbook pages
in two sittings. The workbook starts out by having you visualize what you want your life to look like-giving you prompts to be sure that you are being as
detailed as possible. This is the foundation for the rest of the workbook. It goes on to help you work through your various subjects to help you create
attainable goals along with the steps needed to complete them.
One aspect of the workbook I love is that it doesn’t just focus on your business or creating work/life balance-it focuses on you as a whole. For me, it felt like it
systematically pulled thoughts, goals, and doubts from me that helped me find a manageable way to structure all aspects of my life, all based around achieving
my vision. When I finished the workbook portion I was left with a sense of clarity of exactly what I want my life to look like and the steps I need to take to achieve
it. I was able to create a daily workflow that included all parts of me-not just work and tasks that need to get done. I also was able to come up with a personalized
mantra that will help my mindset on those difficult days. As a bonus, it has 30 days worth of journal prompts included!
*Be as detailed as possible
When filling out the Create Your Vision section. This is the foundation for the rest of the workbook, so be sure
to write about every aspect of your life! (Don’t forget about yourself)
*Really focus on figuring out your blocks
What are the reasons you aren’t achieving some of your goals?
*Fill up the space in the “What gives you energy” and “What Makes You Feel Alive” section.
Make a plan to be sure to include these activities in your life!
*In the “Gorgeously Grateful” section-try to find the positive in some of your less-exciting tasks.
(For me, I have to do all of the driving…and I very much dislike driving. I focused on the fact that I am lucky to be in a
position where my schedule is flexible enough to be able to actually DO all of the driving).
As is life-everything changes. When life happens-bust out the eraser and update your answers frequently!
