Yesterday we had the honor of photographing Sarah and Ricky’s Intimate Wedding at the Howey Mansion-which Ricky described to me as more of an elaborate dinner party for their close family and friends. From talking with Ricky and Sarah about their wedding day details, I have a feeling that they-as well as their wedding-was going to be something special. They did not disappoint.
The wedding was absolutely breathtaking. The Howey Mansion is a gorgeous venue on its own, but wedding planner Blush by Brandee Gaar and Bluegrass Chic took it to the next level with floral that added beautiful pops of vibrant color to the decor. The couple actually incorporated the mansion’s stunning doors and -my personal favorite-the colors and textures of the exterior walls for their Save the Date cards and Wedding Invitations, as well as some of the signage that was present throughout the day.
Photographing an event at Howey Mansion is a pretty sweet deal. We are spoiled with beautiful backdrops at every angle. There was definitely one other moment where I felt pretty spoiled, because with everyone settled in their seats awaiting the entrance of Sarah, I was one of the few people who got to watch her walk down the spiral staircase before meeting her dad and entering her ceremony. It was pretty incredible. Her hair and makeup were perfectly in place as she started down the aisle, thanks to Simone from Makeover Station.
At one point when we were discussing detals, Ricky said something along the lines of “ceremony-just a bunch of talking heads”, but I think they broke the mold with their ceremony. Their ceremony was full of personality-Sarah showing their guests her (amazing) blue Badgley Mischka shoes, Ricky and Sarah simultaneously petting Nikhil’s jacket, plenty of sweet glances at each other, heartfelt words from their best friends, handwritten vows that they prepared together, and a ton of laughs.
After post-ceremony portraits, the guests were wow’d with one of the most amazing first dances I’ve ever seen-an Argentine Tango, which they NAILED! They managed to keep it a secret from everyone-and I am pretty sure Ricky’s mom may have been the most surprised! Arthur’s Catering provided a delicious buffet for the newlyweds and their guests, and then treated to a Flaming Bananas Flambe for dessert-where the couple became chefs for a “hot” minute. Music for the event was provided by the incredible Classern Quartet, and they complimented the wedding perfectly. The quartet ended their night with a standing ovation by the guests.
Sarah and Ricky-we wish the two of you the best and hope to keep up with your shenanigans for years to come! Thank you so much for having me!
