Covid-Friendly Family Vacation Ideas
2020 has been a tough year for family vacations, but taking a Covid-Friendly Family Vacation is not completely out of the question! With Family Cruises and International Travel still on hold, families are rediscovering some of the amazing landmarks and travel destinations the U.S. has to offer.
Before you start planning your Road Trip, there are definitely a few things to consider before traveling during Covid. If you live in a Coronavirus hot-spot, are typically in contact with others or if you are high risk/have family members who are high risk, you may want to avoid traveling at this time. Simply use this post as inspiration for when travel is safe for you and others you may be in contact with. Definitely travel within your comfort level. Your family vacation will not be fun if you are anxious and nervous about the virus the entire time.
If you feel safe and comfortable traveling with your family, here are some of our favorite Covid-Friendly Family Vacation Ideas!
Taking your family to visit the Great Smoky Mountains may be just what the Dr. ordered to chase away the Quarantine Blues!
Social Distancing is a breeze when there is so much nature around you! The Great Smoky Mountain National Park is a Covid-Friendly destination, where you can spend the day hiking and exploring nature trails. Our boys like to spend time collecting leaves and skipping rocks.
We recommend the app All Trails, which will give you a list of the hiking trails in the area along with the skill level. This has definitely helped us from accidentally taking the boys (and ourselves) on some pretty tricky hikes.
The fun doesn’t stop at the Smoky Mountain National Park. You can take in more breathtaking views at Gatlinburg Skylift Park or enjoy a day in the open-air park, Anakeesta.
Cabins in Gatlinburg tend to be awesome, and your family will enjoy spending evenings in. Many are full of board games, video games and a movie theater. For accommodations, be sure to look for their Covid-19 cleaning procedures. Don’t be afraid to reach out with questions on how they are ensuring that they are taking precautions to make sure their guests stay safe. Cabins For You does a wonderful job outlining all of their cleaning and safety procedures along with their dedication to keeping their guests and team safe.
Head to the Beach!
Pack your trunk with your favorite beach accessories and head to the beach for your family’s Covid-Friendly Vacation! Visit your family’s favorite spot or explore somewhere new!
Whether you are looking for a Staycation, Weekend Getaway or a full on Family Vacation, visiting a beach is a great way to stay Covid-Friendly. Of course you will be able to enjoy your days riding the waves or building massive sand castles, but beach towns have so much more to offer. You can usually find a variety of outdoor activities, excursions and restaurants with outdoor seating. If you are in Florida, Venice Beach and Treasure Island and Key West all come highly recommended by my beach-loving friends!
Tip: Check out AirBnB or VRBO for the best options when it comes to Covid-Friendly accommodations. Many hosts are enforcing strict cleaning protocols, and many properties have access to private beaches. This will ensure that your family is able to enjoy your time at the beach without dodging any kind of crowds. We are loving this Beach Condo in Treasure Island!
Golf is one of the few sports where social distancing is easy to achieve. If you have a golf-loving family member, a trip to a Golf Resort may be the perfect Family Vacation for your crew! In my experience, Golf Resorts have always had a high standard for cleanliness. Now with new guidelines and procedures in place, this already high standard has been taken to the next level!
We loved staying at Callaway Gardens and PGA National, where you can enjoy their stunning golf courses, relax by the resort pool, visit the spa and experience multiple dining options! They both also have Covid-Friendly activities nearby, giving you the full vacation experience!
Theresa of Get Out! Custom Travels recommends Moab, UT as a Covid-Friendly vacation destination.
Moab, UT is a great COVID-friendly vacation destination for both couples and families because it offers adventurous and relaxing experiences while allowing for social distancing in wide open spaces. This destination is a perfect home base to discover nearby national parks such as Arches and Canyonlands along with beautiful state parks such as Dead Horse Point. Accommodations can range from your standard hotel to unique glamping experiences! Enjoy your days exploring hiking trails (make sure to do the tough ones in the morning before it gets too hot!), mountain biking, off-roading, golfing, or simply strolling through town. To get there, fly into Salt Lake City and rent a car. The scenic drive is about four hours each way. There’s no shortage of things to see and do for everyone in Moab!
This is the perfect time to start checking off items from your Nation Parks Bucketlist! To get started you can simply search your state for National Parks and head off for a Weekend Getaway. If you really want to make the most of your National Park Trip, visit the blog at Chimani. From there, you can download their free Mobile App that serves as a National Park Guide!
We also highly recommend using an experienced Travel Agent to make the most of your National Park Trip. Check out Theresa of Get Out! Custom Travels. We use her for our big trips and have always had amazing experiences with her!
Ok. Hear me out on this one. When you think of Covid-Friendly Family Vacations, Disney likely doesn’t make the cut. Personally, I was very hesitant to head back to Disney after its closure. I follow a LOT of Disney Bloggers and Influencers. I spent a lot of time reading up on their experiences with the parks after reopening. It took some time, but I finally got to the point where I felt comfortable giving it a go. Head over to A Magical Life For Me for the inside scoop on all things Disney. There is even a blog post dedicated to the resorts!
Disney has gone above and beyond with their Covid safety measures. It starts with limited park capacity, which has you go online to make your park reservations ahead of time. This is just the beginning. Markings on the ground are present throughout the entire park, especially in lines. Seating on every attraction is done in a way to ensure you are not in contact with others. There are hand washing and sanitizing stations throughout the park. Masks are mandatory unless you are eating. Even then, you cannot eat and walk, you must move off to the side.
Disney is also encouraging Mobile Ordering for your food, which has significantly reduced the crowding that usually takes place at the restaurants.
If you are a Disney-lover, this is the time to go! The parks have low crowds, allowing you to get on every ride in half a day! It’s not everyday you get to have a Disney Park all to yourself!
Just a reminder, use your best judgement when planning a covid-friendly family vacation! If you have additional recommendations to add to the list, we would love to hear them!
